As you approach the pillars, it becomes even more clear that this opening lets out onto the outdoors. Ropes are tied to the pillars, and these ropes anchor a single-file rope and wood bridge that spans the ravine. From your position by the pillars, you can see a similar opening about 60 feet away on the other side of the ravine. The 60 foot bridge is anchored to matching pillars over on the other side.

Caby quickly leads Reeks back from the opening to try and keep the light from shining out of it. She'll have him shutter the lantern.

Then she whispers, "Jaral and I will go across first to make sure the area is secure before anyone else crosses. The last thing we need is to be left sitting ducks on a rope bridge. Once the coast is clear, we'll light a torch and wave it to signal the OK.

The thought here is that we might be less of a target on the bridge, possibly even able to sneak across it unseen. Plus being just a (sub) party of halflings, we'd get an initiative bonus if it came to combat.

As you're preparing, you realise you won't be able to hide on the bridge. There's no natural cover, and you'd be moving.

Several moons are full tonight, but only one is currently overhead. By it's light, you can see the bottom of the ravine some 200 feet below.

Movement on the bridge is 25% of your normal rate. You are about a third of the way across when you see two shapes trying to hide behind the pillars at the other end of the bridge, one behind each pillar.

Jaral hits it, but it doesn't go down. It disappears back into the shadows, and you hear it shouting.

Ducats nocks an arrow and crosses after Caby. When he gets to cover, he tries to listen for noise.

when you make it over there, you'll be hearing crickets in the next town.. lol

Top speed on the rope bridge is 25% at best, with no running, so you'll only be able to make about 8 feet per 10 second round. You feel incredibly exposed and incredibly slow.

You have 4 rounds til you reach the pillars in the mouth-like opening where the bridge is tied off on the opposite side.

Round 1, Caby is 24 feet from the pillars..
Round 2, Caby is 16 feet from the pillars..
Round 3, Caby is 8 feet from the pillars..

You hear a coarse shout, and arrows fly out of the shadows beyond the opening!
