ooc - The Zeeg family has not been seen for two weeks. Tracks come and go from the house as if...something....from the north has visited multiple times in the recent past. Does it look like the most recent 'meal' took place yesterday or last week?

The newest non-party tracks are 2-3 days old, but it's hard to nail it down more exactly than that.

Caby peers into the house window to confirm the trap has not been reset before opening the door. Once inside, she'll head to the bedroom that is most obviously the parents' and search it for the axe. She'll check under the bed, under the mattress, examine the floor boards for any that look unusual or out of place, etc.

Though the light shining through the windows has changed, making everything in the rooms cast long shadows, you find the house as you left it.

In a turn of searching the adults' bedroom, you find no hidden or concealed apertures.

I was slightly in error.. after reading back through, you got back out to the Zeeg place around 4pm, with sunset happening close to 5.30. Therefore, after looking around the house a bit, you have a little over an hour before sunset as you start to follow the odd tracks headed north.

You troop off northward through a dry barley field, and then across open brown grass. Cash occasionally sniffs the tracks, and quietly growls at them.

You walk for about 45 minutes. The sun is low in the west, finally making an appearance at the edge of the grey overcast which still covers the rest of the sky, but less than an hour before going down. It's getting cold, and those with cloaks wrap them about tighter against the breeze. The land has been rising very slightly, and very gradually, and before you sit gentle, grassy brown hills. You can see that beyond the first few shoulders, the hills become forested with bare trees.

Up ahead, perhaps 100 yards distant, one of the nearest hills is surmounted by a gnarled old tree. Between the distance and the light, it's little more than a silhouette, but it looks like it still holds a few dry leaves in its branches here and there. The tracks you've been following clearly head in this direction.

She scans the surrounding area, looking for any sign of activity. If she sees none, then she'll motion for everyone else to remain where they are.

She then hides in the brush and makes her way up to within 50' of the tree. There, she'll try to confirm the tracks are leading to the tree. She'll also look for any obvious recent activity (tracks in other directions from the tree, movement of any kind, etc.)

Rolling for hiding...

Caby slips off into the grass.

From about 50 yards away, you can see there is some sort of cleft or ravine to the east of the tree. You can see the top edge of it, but not the rest, and you're fairly certain the cut doesn't come all the way out to this side of the hills, so there's no pathway directly into the bottom of it.

As you get closer, and start making your way carefully up the hill, there are so many tracks wandering about that you're not sure exactly where they go.

From hiding, 50 feet from the tree, you see no movement.
