After Jaral's shot, you all hear something heavy hit the dirt floor outside the edge of the light, perhaps 20 feet away.

As the lantern clears the edge of the hole, much of this chamber is revealed. It is all dirt, with heavy wood timber reinforcement, and many sleeping pallets, old chairs and stools about. It is 20 feet from side to side, and more than 50 feet west to east. The hole you came up is 10 feet from the western wall. To the east the room continues more than 30 feet, the edge of your light.

About 20 feet east of the hole, you see a rather large goblin, face down and unmoving. Blood is pooling into the dirt around him.

Before you reach the body, the lantern reveals the eastern wall of the chamber, about 30 feet behind the body. There is a small, dirty wooden table against the wall, on the left. In the center of the east wall is an open door in a heavy wooden frame set into the dirt. The door itself is of heavy iron-bound wood. It is open into the space beyond.

The body does not move, and yields to your sword-thrust without comment. This goblin, which looks much like the fat one from the tree outside, except larger, is wearing better clothes and nicer leather armor. It has a longsword clutched in its hand, and a dagger at its belt. It has 10 electrum, 20 silver, and 1 gold piece in its pockets.

Near the open door, you see a short bow and a quiver of arrows lying on the dirt floor. 2 arrows stick out of the wall.

Ducats replaces arrows from the quiver.

Caby uses her short sword to sort through the sleeping pallets (I'm assuming they are made of straw or reeds and thatching or some such thing?). When she is done with that, she'll check out the back room.

Yes they are, and probably a combination of straw and reeds. Poking around in them you find:

• A 2 inch tall malachite figurine
  
• A small elegant wooden jewellery box, glued shut and now defaced with the words “Do Not Open” crudely carved into the top
  
• An old tin whistle

The back room is also of dirt, but has a stone floor. In it are the following obvious contents:

• A large and ornately carved wooden desk, once highly valuable, but now horribly filthy, marred, and ruined
  
• A large wooden chair in similar horrid condition
  
• A great deal of clearly human clothing, relatively clean, both male and female of various sizes
  
• Two empty, abused bookcases
  
• A large iron-bound wooden chest, with a hasp but no lock

The room itself is a 20 foot square, with a 10 foot ceiling.

The ceiling in the outer area was about 12-15 feet, by the way.

10 minutes of examination reveals no traps on or around the chest.
